One of the most rewarding parts of my job is working with people of all ages and helping them stay as strong, mobile and independent as possible.

Meet Harry — my oldest client at 98 and a half.

His daughter Jennifer contacted me to ask whether I could help him with his mobility, and of course I said yes.

Our sessions are completely adapted to Harry and what he is able to do. We work from a chair using light dumbbells, resistance bands and boxing exercises to help maintain his strength, movement and coordination.

We also get him walking on the treadmill — and when we do, we often end up singing The Grand Old Duke of York together. ❤️

Harry brings so much character and humour to every session, and he has completely brightened my weeks.

And it gets even better. His 91-year-old wife has now joined us too, so sometimes they exercise together.

It is such a lovely reminder that exercise doesn’t have an age limit.

Training when we are older isn’t about trying to do what we did at 30 or 40. It is about maintaining the strength, balance, mobility and confidence that help us continue doing everyday things for ourselves.

Being able to stand up from a chair, walk confidently, use our arms and legs effectively and stay as independent as possible can make an enormous difference to quality of life.

Harry is proof that there is still value in working on those things at 98.
